The benefits of healthy eating are these days being given more attention than ever before and there are good reasons for doing this. There are a lot of illnesses related to a poor diet and there is a cost to the overall economy as people suffer from health problems such as heart disease and hypertension. No matter where you look, people are encouraging you to live a healthier way of life but but then, you are also being encouraged to rely on fast foods that can affect your health in a bad way. Most people typically believe that healthy diets require a lot of work and will significantly change how they live and eat. It is possible, though, to make a few minor changes that can start to make a positive impact to our day-to-day eating habits.
You can make similar changes with the oils that you use to cook your food. Olive oil contains monounsaturated fat which can help to fight bad cholesterol. Olive oil can also be healthy for your skin as it is a great source of vitamin E. It might be that you already feel that you eat fruit and leafy greens but it can be worthwhile considering how fresh these are depending on where you purchase these. If at all possible, go for organic produce that has not been sprayed with toxic pesticides. Searching for a local supplier of fresh vegetables and fruits will give you the option of eating foods that still have virtually all of the nutrients which are oftentimes lost when produce has been kept in storage before selling it.
Evidently, it’s not at all difficult to begin integrating healthy eating into your daily routine.

- In a medium skillet over medium heat, brown the breakfast sausage until you don't see any pink. Remove from heat. Remove any excess grease and set aside.
- Add the butter to the Pyrex measuring cup. Microwave on high for 1 minute to melt the butter.
- Remove from microwave. Stir in the Kentucky Kernel flour to make a roux.
- Microwave on high for 30 seconds. The roux may foam up a bit. Don't worry, you can stir it back down.
- Slowly add the milk to the roux while whisking, incorporating it well.
- Microwave on high for 2 minutes. Remove from micro and give it a stir.
- Microwave on high 2 more times at 1 minute increments, stirring in between. You will notice the gravy thickening after the first 1 minute.
- You will know when your gravy is done because a circular plume will develop in the gravy. (See photo below) If you do not see the plume, microwave in 30 second intervals until you do. Add additional milk as needed if a thinner gravy is desired.
- Stir in the sausage and ladle some of that southern love all over those wonderful 7-Up biscuits.
-
- only use the red pepper flakes if you are using a standard sage breakfast sausage instead of spicy. Just add the pepper flakes to the sausage when browning.
